From the Archives- Building the 3 Body Purification of Microchakra Psychology

Beginning to prepare the Oct 8-12, 2026 3 Body Purification, I made the decision to use a purification from Oct 2018. I made the decision since it was seasonally the same time of year, so the Ayurvedic recommendations he gives will reflect the proper time of year. Interestingly, while I didn't know this when I chose the 2026 dates, it seems the days of the week will align with his classes. Based on the colors he's wearing, it must have also started on a Thursday! As I listened to participants share their reactions I realized I was present at this purification! I've been so used to listening from the 1990s that I didn't even consider my own attendance. It was so interesting to hear my reactions from so many years ago.
The video quality is really good. I am grateful for the recordings everyone made before Zoom; they are much higher quality.
In this recording, he was teaching on pratyahara, the inversion of the senses, an advanced step in yoga that comes only after years of work with asana and pranayama. It is a turning inward, learning to perceive from within rather than only through the outer senses. As part of the lesson he shared a story as he often does. I had remembered this story for years but could never place where I heard him share it! It was about his good friend Harish Johari, who was a teacher and spiritual artist himself. Harish was carving a sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi, and Sri Shyamji had gone with him to choose the slab it would come from. Harish shared his inner vision with him, how he searches a slab for the sculpture that is already present inside it, waiting to be uncovered with the inner sense rather than created with just the outer senses.
The anecdote is a sweet and humble share and brought a smile to face, I hope it does the same for you. I have often thought of this story when I paint, searching the canvas for what is already present. I was so happy to finally find it again and share it with all of you.
You know how you can hear something and it makes mental sense, so you think you understand it, only to later experience it and realize how shallow the mental comprehension of words actually was? That's what listening to this entire purification was. It was a reflection on how my internal experiential understanding has deepened in these exact concepts he is sharing that I only mentally understood at the time. In one instance he was discussing a state above mind and went on to describe the functions of mind – easy to comprehend but very far away for most to experience. I am constantly in awe of the profundity of what this man taught. I think he spoke from such a high perspective that it is difficult for people to appreciate the depth and truth in what he is explaining. But he is showing us the way.
Comprehension is not the same as experience, and Sri Shyamji often said a philosophy isn't helpful to us if we cannot experience it. Yet I recognize there were so many layers that needed to be cleansed in order to experience for myself. His sounds are like a cheat code in the fabric of the universe. I am forever grateful for the power of Nada Yoga, and to have met such a true teacher in this lifetime. I am so grateful he lived long enough for us to meet. So many circumstances could have interfered, so many times when he was sick, that opportunity could have been lost.
He saw the layers. He understood where humans were functioning from, and that they weren't going to understand any deeper than a mental comprehension of words and concepts without peeling those layers. His constant emphasis on purification was so wise. Of course it was. They are hard to do, and sometimes it is hard to see what they are doing for us until we've done many of them seasonally in a row. It's indescribable. It's a safe entry into the greatest path available, the divine path, the divine life.
I am really excited to continue building this purification, and I hope you'll join us Oct 8-12 online.
